Dare to Care: Feeding Hope with Every Click

Dare to Care Food Bank is the leading hunger relief organization serving Kentuckiana, working with over 300 food pantries, shelters, and kitchens. With a mission to feed the hungry and break the cycle of need, Dare to Care distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food annually. Their website is a critical tool for connecting those in need with food resources, engaging volunteers, collecting donations, and educating the public about food insecurity. When it was time to overhaul their website, the organization turned to Mightily to design and develop a site that would make it easier for people to access food and services, encourage donations, and reinforce their position as a trusted community partner in the fight against hunger.

Challenge

The previous website was difficult to navigate, had limited accessibility, and featured an outdated design. Mightily’s goal was to simplify navigation for food seekers, volunteers, and donors while enhancing accessibility to meet WCAG Level AA accessibility compliance for visitors who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise disabled. The redesign also needed to modernize the visual identity while maintaining brand consistency.

Donations Front and Center

To support Dare to Care’s fundraising goals, Mightily restructured the site to prioritize giving. The donation experience was streamlined, with prominent placement of calls to action throughout the site, simplified forms, and fast-loading pages to reduce friction and increase conversions. By making it easy to give, whether one-time or recurring, donors can now support hunger relief efforts in just a few clicks.

A Custom Tool to Find Help Fast

Perhaps the most impactful feature of the new site is a custom-built Food Finder tool, which is an intuitive, map-based resource that allows users to quickly locate nearby food pantries, meal sites, and emergency assistance. Designed with usability in mind, the tool offers filters for types of services, hours of operation, and location. It’s also fully accessible, mobile-friendly, and easily maintained by Dare to Care staff so the information remains up-to-date for those who need it most.

 

Dare to Care Outcome

The redesigned Dare to Care website not only looks modern and reflects the organization’s heart and mission, but it also delivers meaningful improvements in usability and community impact. The new food access tool has empowered thousands of individuals and families to find help with dignity. Donation volume has increased due to better visibility and user experience, and the accessibility improvements ensure the site is equitable and inclusive.
